Yeah so you define metal based on what you like or not.
Why not just say that there's metal that you appreciate and metal that you don't ?
That's the more rationnal approach. You can even say that there's good and bad metal, but saying "this is metal because I like it", and "this isn't metal because it's gay" doesn't work.
At least you'll be the only on to abide by your own definition, which makes talking about metal suck

That's why I usually dislike talking about "favourite subgenres" of metal and rather prefer to name the individual bands that I like.
Because there is good in multiple subgenres, and bad in others.
I like Gojira a lot, doesn't mean I just listen to death metal. I like Pantera, doesn't mean I just listen to groove. I like Infant annihilator a lot, doesn't mean all 'core is good.
