what are your thoughts on half-life?

Solution
Half-Life is keyed in every way shape and form, the original game is actually my #1 favorite of all time and I can literally play it forever and ever, the expansions are really fun as well that expand the Black Mesa incident to a greater scale. The second game and its episodes are lesser IMO but are still 9/10s.

Valve's theme that you hear in the start of all of their games is actually just the theme from midway through Surface Tension, the longest chapter of HL1. Man the game's cinematics are still incredible today for a 20 year old game, like the tentacle in Blast Pit, the jets in Surface Tension. It's just incredible really I implore you play it; the game really set the bar for what a good singleplayer FPS is while still feeling...
I always get tired of black mesa before xen so idk how they actually changed it, other than some weird puzzle I remember hearing about that let you skip the gonarch I think. the rocket launch is the furthest i've gotten in it. anyways I transheart the revolver and crossbow.
The revolver and crossbow don't carry much ammo so I always save, save so much I never end up using them, except for killing alien controllers because those guys are a pain to get with anything but precision weapons. Also the crossbow is meta for killing the crystals in the Niahlinth chamber. I would beat Black Mesa because the game only starts to get on par with the original when you get to Gonarch, if she's skippable I don't know about that I just did the autoscroller like I was supposed to (her bossfight isn't really a boss fight its an autoscroller).

I hate half life 1.

It feels like in half life 1 every section is designed for you to be at maximum health. and that simply is not possible considering the hitscan nature of most enemies.
Getting low on health makes the game an absolute nightmare to play because your constantly dying over and over thanks to the hitscan enemies, having to save and slowly move up and up. Some parts are litterally dark souls level diffculty if your low on health like they never planned on the fact that sometimes you aren't always on max hp. There was one part of the game where air strikes were being called. If you were high on hp you were suppose to rush underground. But if you were low on hp there were soldiers who would shoot at you making it impossible to get down there. and there were NO health packs or anything. If you decided to sit there and pick at them under the safety of a room to prevent being blown up by the airstrikes in the open they would all rush you. and because you had no health you were fucked. Alot of things in the game that can instakill you or take 90% of your health are not telegraphed properly either. and I hate the enemies

lets take the zombie enemy in the game for example. These enemies are extremely easy and not fun to fight when you have ammo or a pistol. there just annoying just click click click. But when you dont have ammo and have to melee them they are also not fun to fight because they insta hit you with a undodgeable melee that eats at your health, and you cant predict or time it either because its random.

Lets take the soldier now. These enemies are hitscan meaning that they instantly hit you with no time like with guns in other shooters. There ability to melee instantly gives them more abilites than you the player has themselves(switching to the crowbar waiting for the crowbar animation to play is not the same as a instant melee) and they lobby gernades every time. Worst part about these guys is that they can carry shotguns, which instakill you if your on like 50hp. There is almost no way to tell that they are carrying shotguns without looking at them up close or stopping and staring which you don't have time for in combat.

The head-crab is even more annoying. They hide behind corners and jump at you giving you no time to react. If your low on health they can instakill you by camping in a corner and then jumping out the 0.0001 millescond you go past the corner before you even have time to look at them. again not telegraphing things. They should've made the headcrab make a ambient sound so players who are paying attention can sneak ahead. that would have made the "run THINK shoot live" marketing thing on the box be more true.

Xen and the later chapters are the perfect of everything I just said with no time to react or every sections demanding you have max hp. Its slippery platforming is also put on full display. its annoying to play and the enemys in zen are way to bullet spongey. Xen made me rage quit multiple times and that is saying something because I play halo 2 on legendary for fun and have completed halo 4 LASO(less than 1.67 percent of halo players on mcc have done that)

I hate the platforming sections to. Half life 1s movement feels really slippery and floaty.

I like half life 2. Its overrated gameplay wise though. the later chapters did not land so well and after you played it like 3-4 times it loses its fun value.
most people who pretend to like half lifes 1s gamplay of die because of "telegraphed unfair thing. reload, try again, repeat until you win to the next section with less health, repeat the same thing but now its 10 times more unfair because your low on health" is because some other person told them half life is good and they cant form any opinion on there own

I've been playing Entropy : Zero (the original one, not Zero 2) and it's butt easy, and i'm playing on hard difficulty.
They buffed the SMG so hard that it just takes a couple bursts to kill someone, they give you manhacks which distract every single rebel and turret away from you, the USP only needs 4 shots to clean up a barnacle, health and ammo are plentiful, the game is actually kind of dull with how easy it is.
The only hard part about Entropy : Zero is how much damage you take, but 90% of the time you'll be on 100% charge when engaging in battle anyway, i've recently started playing the game though so i hope it gets better.

I think it's a really easy bad habit to fall into, but when you first get the revolver and for a long time after you can basically use it as much as you want and as long as you're not missing your shots you wont run out of ammo. Later in the game they don't give you that much though. Ive never run out of crossbow ammo doe.

>actually you've only played this 10 hour long game from start to finish a dozen times because other people told you it was good

how many times have you ragequit because of a bullshit section because your low on hp and there are a bunch of instant killing things with no telegraphing or time to properly react.

Suit yourself, i understand your feelings though, who the fuck puts multiple headcrabs at a vent entrance?

I played Half Life 2 again. My least favorite is still Water Hazard and Sandtraps was still good. I died like 20 times on hard and most of it was on Water Hazard and Nova Prospekt

Ravenholm is super overrated and was a shitty time for the game to give you the shotgun, the game incentives you to only use the grav gun (which is a crap gimmick in of itself).
Ravenholm lasts too long and the last part is like a fucking maze, especially when he tells you that you went the wrong way. You go to the previous level, thinking you actually did go the wrong way but you actually have to cross a plank. The ending of Ravenholm is gemmy when this plays and you start seeing Overwatch Soldiers for the first time

I liked Ravenholm, especally the fast zombies, it actually is quite overrated.
My favorite chapters are Water Hazard, Route Kanal, Highway 17 and Nova Prospekt.

You even get the AR2, i love the AR2, the aggressive thumping noise and the edgy, surreal design make the gun so addictive.

I agree, that guy getting sniped was funny too.

Zombies are shit enemies, they should've had more aliens like bullsquid and houndeye.

I used to bring dogs ball with me as far as you can , kinda like the gnome except there are a bunch of spots that don't let props pass or parts where it can crash your game for some reason.

The normal zombies and poison zombies are really shit, but i loved the fast zombies, they jumpscared me a lot, even if thry were very easy to fight and actually shit enemies (still love them though).
I disliked fighting Houndeyes, they were cool but too easy to kill (i still like 'em), BVLLsquids on the other hand are something i ENDORSE, i just wish their spit was more like the Antlion Worker's spit.

I'm on the part after they capture Alyx now. Fighting through City 17 was really boring since it's just constant fighting so the downtime where you get to explore is le good
