Portugal allows gun ownership with many restrictions. Here are some of the gun laws in Portugal:
  • Licensing
Handguns are legal if the owner has a license and registers the weapon with the police. A hunting license is required to hunt in Portugal, and additional licenses are needed to hunt with a firearm, dogs, or go hawking.
  • Storage
Weapons must be stored in safes in homes.
  • Transportation
Firearms and ammunition can only be transported on TAP flights for personal use and for hunting or sporting purposes. Passengers must check in two hours before their scheduled time. Firearms and ammunition must be packed in a strong container that protects against shock and prevents movement. Ammunition must be small caliber and cannot contain explosive projectiles. Passengers cannot transport more than 11 lbs of ammunition each. Weapons and ammunition with explosive projectiles cannot be transported as hold baggage.
  • Airsoft replicas
Airsoft replicas must be painted red or yellow, depending on their size. Long replicas (over 60 cm long and 30 cm barrel length) must have 10 cm of the barrel and the entire stock painted. Short replicas (under 60 cm long or 30 cm barrel length) must have 5 cm of the barrel and the entire grip painted
