Keep in mind that more than, since 1973, a little over 1 in 10 death row inmantes have been exonerated. Meaning that they are innocent. Those are the ones that survived, imagine how many were actually executed.
For me, I think that it should be reserved for the most heinous crimes with no chance of rehabilitation. Also only when there is 100% certainty that the accused is guilty, not just "beyond a reasonable doubt".
