Yesterday's rivalries don't necessarily have to carry over to present. The Turks generally treated the Christian minorities well up until westoid meddling in the form of extreme nationalism causing rebellions within the Empire. I don't hate the minorities who rebelled, I just hate the westoids who very often tried to turn them against the Turks. The Armenians were even given a special title around that time by the Ottomans.
