Yeah, westerners assume people in the third world are literally killing each other every day and everything is one big hellish anarchy. They have really weird and inaccurate conceptions. I think it's because a lot of them see the worst of those countries with all the immigrants. That is, they see African immigrants behaving badly and assume everyone in Africa is similar. When in reality most of that bad behavior is because Africans are simply sending their worst to them, getting rid of their bad apples.

A rural life in a Syrian village might actually be quite cozy now that the West BTFO'd any threat of national danger posed by the Islamic State with all of the bombs they dropped on them, albeit I'd of course prefer it to be a Christian-majority village (maybe in the mountainous countryside, like this one) if I were able to choose where to particularly live. I wouldn't much mind Damascus, either. Idlib certainly wouldn't be that comfy doe.

They know the basics. All throughout history those who knew the basics thrived over far superior civilizations just because they believed in something. The Mongols used to be dirty, uneducated and violent too. Then they conquered all of China. The Germanics used to be poor, uneducated and dirty too. But it didn't stop them from defeating the Romans. My point isn't to say these third worlders live a better life than you necessarily, my point is, they are more motivated than you are and their survival skills are far better. That's what counts on the long run.
