I haven't watched the trailer and moreover learned about the movie from this thread, but even one screenshot shows that this movie was made by people who have never played Minecraft in their lives. I'm not saying they have to be actual gamers, but these people simply don't know how Minecraft actually looks like. They just saw some concept art of villages and monsters and kept in mind that the world is made of cubes and did this.

After a while, I've thought about this more and the reason why this movie is going to fucking suck is because it's blatantly a shameless cash grab and the creators don't understand their target demographic.

Who is this movie for?​

When you go to watch a videogame movie, most people who watch the movie are fans of the videogame, this is extremely true for the FNAF movie which bombed critics wise but exploded in the box office with over 200 to 300 million dollars or something like that with only a budget of 20 million, they surpassed their budget in profit by more than 10 times. The FNAF movie is kind of a great example at what a videogame movie should be, a movie to make the fans happy, it did have its flaws, but at the end of the day it was a celebration of everything FNAF, Matpat was there, CoreyXKenshin was there and they played child roles, but they were subtle nods and references that the fans really enjoyed.

Now take a look at the Minecraft movie. It is a soulless corporate cash grab, where the only cameos are going to be shitty celebrities and the original creator of the game isn't even involved in it at all. Scott Cawthon, the indie dev, the creator of FNAF made an absolutely amazing movie when he had full creative control, do you know how much of a disaster it would have been if we got the plushies take manhattan instead? The same principle applies here, if perhaps Notch had a say in all this, hell, maybe even a cameo, the movie would have been a lot better in my opinion, when people think Minecraft, like, Notch is like the GOD of Minecraft, so why the fuck would Notch not be in the Minecraft Movie?

To summarize, the Minecraft Movie is not a movie for fans of Minecraft, it's basically what boomers and millenials think Minecraft is without even fucking playing it. It is the worst generalization of Minecraft possible, where braindead millenials can watch it and say that they like Minecraft too or whatever.

You know what actually is for the fans of Minecraft? Minecraft: Story Mode. Good writing, great options, great storytelling, great artstyle and best of all, great cameos. The characters of MC Story Mode fit right into Minecraft as skins and vice versa, when they were making that game, they actually understood what Minecraft was and seeing this teaser just really makes me think that the makers of this movie think we're fucking stupid and we're going to buy into this shit, which they're probably right.

This is essentially what happens when you sell your indie game to a large corporation.

Please, Notch. Please save us, Notch. Please.​

I've been trying to wrap my head around what a potentially good Minecraft movie would even look like and in my opinion it should probably be about these things:

• A story about loneliness, you're the only human player character in Minecraft
• A story about trial and error, getting your house blown up and having to rebuild, dying and losing your items and having to get them, depression, boredom and overcoming challenges.
• A story about exploration and discovery, the initial reaction of entering a Nether Portal and on the other side, is an absolute hellish wasteland, with an ocean of lava underneath your feet at all times, how will you navigate this hostile landscape?
• A story about mystery, secret mineshafts underground, temples and palaces, who built these structures?
• A story about Disc 11 and Disc 13, perhaps, where we get a scene where our main character re-enacts what we hear and gets lost in a cave and has to make his way out.
• A story about survival
• Cameo with Notch PLEASE.

Those are what I think the MC Movie should be, about the two gods, the green god and the blue god from the End poem, about the player, the only human in the world, and the mysteries of the world that surround him. Maybe even Herobrine could make a cameo, or maybe he finds a friend, like Alex, but he loses her somehow, perhaps to her falling off a ledge in a cliff to the deep dark. Maybe she dies, or she survives and the main character has to save her. And lastly, please just give us a cameo with Notch, it's been years since he said that stuff, can't you just move on already?

The teaser doesn't even feel like a Minecraft Movie​

The only thing even remotely Minecrafty would be the nether portal at the beginning and that's it, everything is hyper realistic for some fucking reason, they should have just kept the original textures, and what about the calm c418 music of the game? Why are they making the plot a jumanji but Minecraft aah plot, like what the fuck? Fuck this shit, go play Minecraft: Story Mode.
