immediate family? none.

although for my distant relatives, i have uncles who were gangbanging during the 60's. they're veteranos(ogs) or actual military veterans, but now, they try to make the youngins of their barrios pursue other paths. i almost joined some sureΓ±o group, but i pursued boxing instead.

i remember riding on my uncle's ranfla w him using it's hydraulics as a kid back in san diego. good times.

gangs were meant to exist as protection of their communities from police brutality and discrimination in general. over time, their raison d'etre corrupted and they started to attack other communities. thus, gang violence.

the crips were made in response towards discrimination from whites and the waning of black nationalist groups such as the black panthers. the bloods were created in order to protect themselves from crips

fun fact: mexican gangs predated african american gangs.

kind of the same way that mobs and mafias were meant to protect their communities or in the case for mafias, business owners from bandits.

Weren't the Bloods originally formed as some resistance gang against the Crips? I haven't looked into this shit much. Of course today they're both pretty heckin bad.
