Well, to start, you'd have to have straight hair, which isn't often a genetically-African trait, so it'll take some time to modify things. I guess you could start with methods of hair straightening. I'm not knowledgeable on them but I know it's possible. Once you do get it straight, you'd need to grow it out to where the front and top hair is long enough to comb back like that, and you'd need some sort of gel or styling adhesive to keep it up as the guy in the picture has it, too. You might also look at some folks of similar genes to you (other Black people) who had hair similar to what you're going for if you'd like some more accurate inspiration for the results you'll probably get. Maybe some photos of old Black musicians from the early nineteenth century, like members of jazz bands, could help. Their styles could fit what you're trying to go for, but usually they just kept their curly hair shorter (look at The Ink Spots, for example), and honestly, I think that could look good on you, too, if you just went for a shorter cut. While reading a little bit on straight-hair styles for Blacks, I did find this article on Wikipedia, which could also help you to find some resources. Good luck, buddy.

perm it to be straight - but it’s high maintenance bc still grows curly from root.
i rlly want straight hair and perming is apparently the only option but it’ll fry my hair and i don’t want that i wish i just had medium length hair..
