1939: World War 2
1985: NES releases
1996: Nintendo 64 releases to the hype of everyone. Spaceworld95 was fucking lit.
2000: The dawn of a new millennium, PS2 released this year.
2003: Half Life 2 release
2006: The Wii released this year.
2008: GTA 4 release.
2010: The golden age of the internet (in my opinion.). The announcement of the Nintendo 3DS. Skate 3 releases.
2013: Minecraft was at it's peak in 2013. GTA V releases I think.
2016: The Presidential Election in America is absolute insanity and commentary YouTubers like Leafy are very popular. FilthyFrank is still around and iDubbbz isn't a cuck.
2019: The last year before COVID kills and ruins literally everything and gaming starts to suck and consoles die out
2045: World War 3 (nah im jk)

In my opinion 2000 - 2020 were the best for gaming and consoles in general, the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS, so much hype. I think I had the 3DS during it's early years, that shit was a wild ride. I miss Miiverse so much it was so retarded that's what made it so fun. Playing Mario Kart Wii online was a blast, and in general theres just so many old games I haven't played yet, and yet they're so good, but the games we get today are so shite. Sorry if Im focusing too much on games tho, I'm sure loads of other stuff happened and I'm just an idiot zoomer who only cares about vidya.

If you could experience a year, what year would it be? For me, I want to be a time traveler and go to Spaceworld95 and tell them all about le personalized copies of SM64 and actually play the beta version of the game to see what it was like.

in general I think the appeal of realistic graphics is just lost on me, games suck nowadays because they traded what really matters for teh graphics.
Fun.
You can't run most games on budget hardware cus everyone is remaking shit and going for ultra realism that requires I own a fucking RTX 4090 or something

I really liked the culture around the internet in 2016 so it is up there for me. Since it was one of the ones listed I also think that 1914 would have been one of the more interesting times to have been alive considering how life was then and the years before the start of the Great War.

youtube was so fun back in 2015 - 17 ish, you had filthyfrank, maxmoefoe, idubbbz, the entire site felt like one big community, youtube rewinds was still a thing and online companies didn't suck yet. roblox was also still somewhat fun back then, but slowly dying.
