because i grew up obsessed with pokémon stuff i've always had a desire to travel back in time to summer 1998 or so, even though i wasn't born until 7 years later. it goes beyond pokemon too. the late 90s were the last few relatively peaceful years (at least in the US) before 9/11. regardless of how you interpret what happened on that tuesday morning, i think we can all agree that the tranquility of the 90s ended there.
computers and the internet were becoming common, but unlike now you couldn't just pull out your phone and browse the web. sometimes i have really autistic daydreaming sessions and one of my favorite scenarios involves secretly browsing bulletin boards in the back of the computer lab on the last day of school. you can still do similar stuff now but the magic isnt there. people were interconnected both online and in real life because there was a balance. i dunno
