I'm a civil engineer and while doing my degree I worked in road construction as foremans assistant. Nowadays it's mainly office job and I rarely get to go to a construction site.

Forklifts are cool, but personally i'd pick from this list:
Slab Hauler:
Looks awesome, used to haul slabs of metal in steel refineries.

Trenching Machine:
Giant tracked chainsaw, makes trenches.

Excevator:
Any excevator since it's the most versatile heavy machine of them all.

Slag pot carrier:
Same reasons as the Slab Hauler, only instead of refined metal it's molten metal.
