The south didn't have a very strong economy lol, all they really had going on was various farmers and plantations selling unrefined goods to other states and countries and dosen't have the means to support a war economy. It is no doubt really that they spent a lot of money to keep the fight going for as long as they could in a hopeless scenario, do you have a source on that whole "most of the money from slavery was spent on the civil war" thing?
