Discussion What do you think about language revitalization/revival projects?

I think they're pretty keyed, although some of them are just for larping, like Nynorn which is just some Scottish niggers larping as Norse and trying to revive it, the Gaelic language ones especially are very keyed.

The Turks destroyed all the beauty the Ottoman language had in an attempt to "revive" the real Turkish or whatever, by ridding the language of all so called foreign influences. The result was that the language turned out to be utter shit and extremely lacking in complex expressions. Which is why modern Turkish fucking sucks. So I'll have to go with locked, I don't like it when people meddle with a language's natural process.

I meant as in reviving a dead language, what Ataturk did was more of a language reform. Modern Turkish is pretty much a constructed language like Standard German, albeit it's closer to the speech of the common folk than Ottoman Turkish

Think Hebrew, it used to be dead with no speakers but it was revitalized

Obviously Turkish education system would have us believe that because if they taught otherwise, then people would point out the flaws of their precious Atatürk. I highly doubt any Anatolian man in the middle ages spoke anything close to this weird mess we call "modern Turkish". Even Atatürk's Nutuk was first published in the Ottoman Turkish Language.

I had something else in mind while writing, but this is true. Atatürk really just simplified the Turkish speech, the speech of the common folk would probably be drastically different, not to mention resorting to taking words from le french instead of making Turkish compound words

Imagine calling yourself "le real Turk" because you got rid of Arabic and Persian influences in your language and replaced it with western influenced words.

We should all speak English. Having a bunch of different languages makes communication and cooperation more difficult for no reason.

Also, I was reading these and the Old turks are really hecking nicerino. Most words for people are what they call themselves (Purum for romans, Tiput for Tibet, Tabgaç (tang dynasty inspired or whatever) for China)

Language is one of the strongest forms of warfare too. You can literally erase a people by erasing their language and it won't take much after that to break them

Cuz in my cunt we have one thousand years old writings in our school books (with no changes).

We can read them, but it's not very comprehensible (70% maybe? That's low since the average native speaker of a language usually has 99.9%) Where are you from?

Iran. Poetry and literature is a big thing here so that's probably why our language hasn't changed that much.
