Were people ruder in the past?

All my life I have heard older people tell me that my generation have it too easy and that their own teachers, professors, employers, etc, made life hell for them and were very demanding to the point of perfection with them.
Yet I have never been in a situation where this was the case ('xcept for one instance). Was it the lead poisoning?

Kinda, really depends on what country you were in, like Russians were ruder back then since they still lived in wood huts in the 19th century
