Several US states have laws banning "evil features" on firearms, including but not limited to pistol grips, flash hiders, retractable stocks, and forward grips. These are purely cosmetic and the only thing they do is make the weapon slightly more easy to handle and use. They do not have any effect on the weapons lethality.
This is a Ruger 10/22 "tactical". It shoots a 0.22 inch (5.6mm) diameter bullet (~30 grains, 2 grams) at around 1,200 feet per second (1,300km/h). Each round has around 162 joules of energy. It is banned in many states. It is not fully automatic; it fires one shot for every trigger pull.

This is a semi-auto M14. It shoots a 7.62mm (175 grain, 11 grams) bullet at 2,800 feet per second (3,070km/h). Each round has around 3,470 joules of energy. It is legal in most states because it looks like a normal hunting rifle. It is a weapon of war as well, being used in the early parts of the Vietnam conflict.

What makes me angry about anti-gun people is that they refuse to educate themselves at all. The only part of a gun that should be restricted in any way is magazine capacity (the amount of rounds a gun can hold without needing to reload). That is the only thing that matters.
