this is a great obd scanner. it's cheap, and it scans deep for any problems that sensors detect
there are dtcs that the obd scanner tells you, each code relating to a specific problem and where the problem is located. for example, the code P0420 indicates that there's a problem with the catalyst chamber efficiency.

how you determine the problem is by reading the dtc. the P in P0420 indicates that there's a problem with the powertrain. the second character in the dtc, 0, refers to whether the problem is generic or manufacture specific. the third character, 4, provides more specific information about the problem within the system. the fourth and fifth characters, 2 and 0, indicate the specific fault within the system.

did you learn this stuff in school or elsewhere?

yeah, i'm taking an engineering class, and i took an automotive class before. both of them cover obd2 codes.

well, my engineering class covers most topics relating to manufacturing and business(both are essential for engineers)
