Just ate a big gyros, It's truly amazing how all worries and troubles melt away after a good meal
As I promised to elaborate on why gigaquoting is the new soyquoting, I will:
The essence of soyquoting is dismissal. Soyquoting isn't just about the explicit "You look like this" but also the implicit disregard for the other person's opinion. When people state their genuine opinion, it would be honoring them to engage with it, even rudely or with hostility, it would honor them to meet genuine opinion with a genuine response. However, by soyquoting, not only are you throwing a childish insult at them, you're also degrading the entire "conversation" by refusing to honor the other side and actually converse. You simply shut down their attempt at being genuine, you drag the conversation down to the level of "you look like this lol". It's this utter refusal to engage with someone and disregard for their ideas that gets them riled up, they take time to put into words their genuine opinion, a piece of their soul, just for someone to come along and piss on it. That's the essence of soyquoting.
But now? Now the soyquote is the new normal. The soyquote is now an outlet for genuine conversation, irony is the new honesty. Now when someone soyquotes you it's a serious invitation, an invitation to a soyduel, people take soyquoting somewhat seriously, and by engaging in a soyduel you legitimize the other person, you honor their request. And this is where gigaquoting comes in, as it plays the role of utter dismissal. When someone misconstrued you or puts words in your mouth, using a soyquote or not, the legitimate answer would be to correct him, to engage with him, or even to respond to the soyduel. But the position of dismissal would be to just take whatever he said and gigaquote it. It's utter dismissal, someone who has put effort into crafting the perfect insult or strawman just for you to take and put on your collar as a medal. It's the middle finger that the soyquote no longer is.
