Well then it's a matter of taste, music in the United States specifically is often more abrasive which lends better to genres like Grunge, Metal, Hard Rock, Punk, etc. As a result finding someone like Elliott Smith is a rarity in the States, but exists in abundance in the UK and elsewhere.
But nobody can do Grunge, Funk, classic R&B, Blues, Jazz or Bossa Nova as the Americas can.
However Europe beat the United States at Psychedelia, Progressive Rock, New Wave, House, and other genres because they're moodier in a different way.
You're not going to find a band like the Dandy Warhols in Cardiff, just as you aren't going to find a band like Blur in California.
I've often heard that America and Europe are tied when it comes to Metal though.
