This song, while sadly in poor quality because it's so obscure, is from an old western film that my grandfather really liked to watch, as I'd always recognize this particular tune coming from the television every now and then while at his house, so it reminds me of him. He's still alive, but I'm not sure how much life he has left.
To add to this just a bit, I just found (pretty much) the full song in a much higher quality from a
YouTube preview of the vinyl record of
Cahill: U.S Marshal's soundtrack! There's some minor issues here and there, as the source isn't from an individual track, so the start and end blend with different songs because of how the video was made, but I sure am glad there's a higher-quality online version that exists, as I've been looking for such a version for a while.
Oh, and one final thing, once again, SNCA, but I feel like also writing that there's some "lost lyrics" to this song that have been transcribed online to it but that I've yet to find a recording to.
Here, it shows the two extra end verses: "He'll stay close to you" and "Till his thinkin' is through". These don't seem to exist on any recording that I've currently found of the song, but they feel like completely real lyrics. These are weird, as I can't find a place in the song where these would fit at the end. I can imagine it in my head, how Bernstein (I know, I know, he's a Jew and all, but he's nonetheless a damn-good composer, at least for this one song) might've composed it, but even listening to the high-quality version, the instrumental just doesn't fit with how the song
should end. It's weird.
