I have a strong hatred for NATO. We shouldn't be involved in any of this on the scale we're at, and yet we're shooting ourselves in the foot so much with every new thing we ship over to "defend the free world" that we'd might as well have shot the whole leg off by now. Not one of the founders intended for the American military to be the world's janitor. Not one of the presidents of the nineteenth century did, either, or the very early twentieth. The American nation's souls were not intended to be the bucket-and-mop used to wipe something off of the map because other parts of the world don't like it. If we cherish our freedom so much, should we just let it extend to the freedoms of persons and groups? No, it should also be a freedom of the state itself, to do as it pleases for the best interests of the American citizenry, as is its function. Why chain ourselves by the ankles to this ball-and-chain called internationalism, then? Did being nice and paying what we were told we owed to the Brits help us at all? No, we threw their tea in the ocean and then started shooting them in the forest. It's time we throw NATO in the ocean and start shooting at anyone who forces us into wasteful military efforts.
