Rant New Minecraft Update is a little disappointing.

I still don't like modern minecraft, it's in a weird state. What's supposed to be a really fun, easygoing casual game about building, surviving, exploring and in general, just chilling out has turned into this extremely cartoony over vibrant over exaggerated game, thanks to the art direction and Lena Raine. The contrast between C418's calm but somewhat melancholic tunes and Lena Raine's completely overly bombastic ost is genuinely so bizarre to me, like literally. The first track here is in the same fucking game as the second track.

Lena Raine's music feels like a crappy bootleg knockoff. I mean that literally is the modern versions of the game.

Its for this reason that I typically just play Better Than Adventure mod these days. But with general gripes aside, shitty pre-recorded live shows and a game that has a new identity that clashes heavily with it's old one (I am absolutely certain while playing modern versions you might walk into something that'll make you feel like you're playing Minecraft Minecraft again. Like you'll be in a normal plains biome, no overhauled fucking villages, bees and a bunch of other bombastic shit, just a normal plains biome with trees, building your house and instead of lena raine music, suddenly dry hands starts playing for some reason. And then after that, you'll dig down like 5 blocks to get into a cave with a bunch of weird looking leaves and spikes and axolotls and shit) they're adding a new mob and a new biome called the Creaking. Now when I thought of this I thought "are they adding fucking herobrine?" but unfortunately, the mob is nowhere near as scary as herobrine.

I personally would really like to see a mob that actually is creepy, a mob that lurks in the shadows and doesn't want to be seen, a mob that extinguishes torches and engulfs you when in complete darkness for example, so you'll be mining in a cave and all of the sudden your torches have extinguished and it's pitch black and something is killing you but you don't know what until you place down a torch and watch it's tentacles run away or something, like in Don't Starve. Something like that would be amazing for Minecraft, you know? Like they just drop a random update one day and they added something that's genuinely scary. What we got though is kind of a little disappointing.

The creaking is a cool idea on paper I guess, I like the idea of a biome with no music, it's eerie, it's odd and a mob that was intentionally designed to not really fit into the game, but I feel like they under delivered, because once you spot it, it doesn't disappear, it just stands still until you look away like a weeping angel. This is just unsatisfying to me because if you're ever planning on actually being scared of this thing, sorry but mojang have just made yet another thing that's not scary. The creeper is scarier than the creaking, it pops out of nowhere and once you see it, it fucking explodes. The Creeper, I think, is probably one of the most scariest mobs in the entirety of Minecraft, you can just be mining one day and that green little fucker will get you out of nowhere. And the noises it makes? It's footsteps sound like a player's footsteps. That's fucked up.

But yeah, yet another update from Mojang that misses the mark for me personally. I really would have liked it if they just kept Minecraft as the game it was supposed to be but now it's just a lot, you know? Playing BTA for a long while taught me that the only mobs we really need is creepers, spiders, skeletons and zombies. I quite like minecraft more when it was more simpler, even 1.8.9 or 1.7.10 was alright because the additions didn't interfere with the feel of the game at all. But seeing these corporate hacks sit around, fake laughing while overhyping the most boring shit ever and hosting a live show that does absolutely fuck all but completely waste your time for like an hour, it's excruciating.

To me there are 3 versions of Minecraft, Notch's game, Mojang's game and Microsoft's game. Notch's game was awesome, Mojang's game was alright and Microsoft's game? Well, if you like it good for you, but it's just so weird for me to even compare. Most of Lena Raine's calmer tracks are boring, uninspired and in general, contain no sections that are rememberable in any way and the sections that are rememberable are often too overtly vibrant.

Anyways, I'd recommend you check out BTA at betterthanadventure.net
It's beta 1.7.3 but extended with genuinely fun gameplay tweaks and items that fit into the game quite well. It's getting to the point now where most people play Minecraft with mods or fans and indie devs kind of have to take over the project these days.

You're getting old and jaded, the kids like new content updates and its clear they're running out of ideas for stuff. It's sad mojang has lost way but there has to be a point you move on, there are other sandboxes for you to play with.

who the fuck cares nigger play beta 1.7.3 or release 1.7.10 and be done with it

you should be striving to use as few words as possible to get the same point across.
I thought you used to be nice or something like that.

Last good update was 1.9
But really Minecraft stopped being interesting after they changed biome generation after 1.7
I figured out after the longest time why the game felt more cozy in 1.6.2. After 1.7 every world feels like the fucking same and there is too much water on the map, too many plains, it's boring.

Other sandboxes have the issue of not having their own identtiy, like Garry's Mod which it's identity is directly built off of stealing Half Life assets and characters from other properties. Minecraft has great potential, theres a certain way that the game should be played and if you can achieve that, then you have a great game, but Mojang aren't exactly hitting the mark when it comes to it. With all of these updates, I'm left wondering why I should even search for this new content at all if it doesn't even benefit me in any meaningful way? I mean think about it, theres a new pale forest biome, which contains a hostile mob and trees with a creaking heart that basically doesn't do shit. Okay, so, I'll just not go there then?

Same with the deep dark, which has this big scary warden or whatever.

I do have to agree though, I played on 1.6.2 and the biome generation in that version is miles ahead of 1.7 and 1.8 where the entire world feels like one big fucking ocean. The modern versions have biomes that are far too large and Minecarts are basically a joke.

As for me, I'm playing BTA, which is a mod for Beta 1.7.3, in my world I have a boat dock and a train station and you can't just skip the night when you want to, placing a bed down anywhere that isn't your house or a house will give your character nightmares, making it so you can't sleep. This feature combined with the lack of sprinting makes it so that you often have to encounter mobs which adds difficulty to a game where 99% of it is skippable. I will never forget that moment I went adventuring in my BTA world, had tons of loot on me from a dungeoneering session and it had turned night time, the mobs were coming for me, I had to burrow down into a dark hole with no coal, no torches, just pure blackness. A creeper was waiting outside for me the entire time. I had to mine stone with my bare hands to wait until morning so I could make my escape.

Modern Minecraft isn't like that though, instead you can just get OP armour and enchant it to shit and not have to worry. But in BTA, even with full iron armour, I am still extremely vulnerable. I also really enjoy building trains and trainstations in my BTA world, now that Minecarts are a lot better and more useful as a source of transportation. Being able to travel from my house to a dungeon, it gives my world SOVL.

Genuinely feels like the modern versions of the game kind of miss the mark on adding mobs and stuff, half of what they add is either useless or just >muh decoration materialzz like okay I guess. The new trial chambers seems pretty cool to me though and I suppose the game has more than 2 boss fights if you count the warden. The Ender Dragon, The Wither (the forgotten mini boss that nobody fights ever because it's skulls are too hard to collect and it's reward is honestly not that great at all) and The Warden. Also the illager raids, I guess.

In my opinion, I don't like villagers at all, I like the feeling of being somewhat completely alone as a human in your world, maybe whoever was there before you simply turned into a zombie or a skeleton something like that.

Personally, i like his long ass posts, it's like i'm taking a dive directly INTO his mind.

I get the feeling your expectations for the scary mob you were talking about were a bit too high, good paragraph about the creeper though, we all love that mob.

You need to break into her home and fucking kill her. Kill her for ruining Minecraft and thus your childhood. Put her head on a pike and hang it from an overpass with sign that reads "THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS TO THOSE THAT DISRESPECT MINECRAFT"
