My PS3 HATES DVDs!!!

Snca. Also post this on /tech/ since no one uses that board

Just learned the PS3 comes with either one lens or 2 - one for blu ray and the second for others. There is no way that the lens is damaged, cause either no disc would work or cds and dvds wouldn't work. I dont get it.

Does it have a seperate lens for DVD? It can still play Blu Ray and even CDs
I mean, it's in the name. The reason Blu-Ray's are called Blu-Rays is because they use a blue laser to read the discs rather than a red one. Because of the shorter wavelength the blue laser can read more densely packed data, which allows Blu-Rays to hold 50GBs compared to a DVD (which uses a red laser)'s 10 or so
However, Sony mandated it so that every Blu-Ray player must play DVDs, so every Blu-Ray player comes with both a blue and red laser so it can play both. Ironically this kind of bit them in the ass, as there were shortages of the red lasers that were partially responsible for making the PS3 launch in 2006 instead of 2005
