Why do redditors think gentoo is harder then arch? i think they are both on the same level of difficulty, maybe gentoo is even easier then arch! when a redditor uses gentoo he would add dumb shit like -O3 and redundant make.conf flags which actually slow down the speed, which is why i use -O2 and set mtune and rustflags, maybe some LTO, but LTO takes ages and may or may not improve speeds

because that's what the unix package management mindset is, Gentoo just shoved the package management from FreeBSD (the base for macfag systems the world over) into linux
