I've noticed that over the course of my life, the only way I can get myself to change is by having a really bad experience because of the choices I've made. Motivational speeches have no effect, but watching a video of someone my age getting their stuff destroyed by their angry father or whatever does a lot. Just tonight I watched a whole compilation of those and I ended up doing a lot of chores that I'd usually forget about. Seeing a TV show about young inmates and being in prison works far better than a privileged faggot talking about success.

Positively, negative motivation is too stressful

When I was a kid, like 15 years old, I cold turkey quit almost all the major time wasting vices and spent all my time being productive. I had to do online course at the time and was positively motivated to keep working and finish the course, but because I was stressed by a due date, but because I just wanted to finish it quickly.
Nowadays I am mostly motivated by stress as I can see how little time I have left and how little I have done with my life. It is much less enjoyable.
