My parents never did beat me, nor was anyone else of my age beaten in my family, either. My father's father was a drunkard from a short family line of drunkards who was extremely harsh on my father in his childhood, and my mother's father probably did beat her once or twice as punishment, but, as far as I remember her speaking of it, never more than a few rare cases.
