tbh a legal marriage is the best route because imagine your wife is giving birth and in hospital but bc you’re not legally married they won’t let you be with her or make any decisions while she’s under… it would be the worst thing ever bc according to the law you’re “just some guy”
and then when divorce happens or she dies it’s a lot harder for you to keep the children legally bc… again ur just not linked to her legally
