Why is alt history always about the 1940s?

WW2 is overrated as shit, I agree. Medieval era is far more interesting, lots of gemmy "what if"s in it. What if the Byzantines won the battle of manzikert? What if the umayyad caliphate won the battle of tours? What if the Ottomans won at Vienna? (albeit this one is early modern) What if the Persians managed to survive the Muslim invasion? The possibilities are endless.

Cause WW2 is interesting. Plus the average person has a much deeper understanding of WW2 (at at least an understanding of what we have been told about WW2) than the Byzantine Empire or the Umayyad Caliphate. Personally, I barely remember anything about the Umayyad Caliphate besides the fact it was Muslim. I wasn’t even sure I spelled the name right until I checked on the internet explorer

In Turkey it's a bit different. Schools instead exclusively focus on seljuk/ottoman history and WW1. WW2 hardly gets a mention. The average Turk knows very little about WW2.

Anyway, I think most pre-modern empires were far more interesting than anything that happened after the 1800's or so.

Ottoman empire by 2050

WW1 and interwar period alt history scenarios are way more interesting imo. So much shit went down from 1918 to 1933

Why not more continents or a larger world, that would be cool or something. Albeit it would probably be about colonization because creating histories for cultures that you also need to make up is le hard.
They are lazy geeg

This is because tvrkbvlls have more interesting history than "Hitler killed 6 million Jews and that's why we worship Israel"

Not alt history but learning about the Weimar Republic disgusts me, like they were such dirty pieces of shit

What if neanderthals never went extinct, and instead turned into a brand new species of human alongside homo sapiens?

[angry]Tsmt the Cold War was so much more interesting why not alternate 1980’s or 90’s history
My favorite cold war thing was the Soviet lazer tank that had like over 20 lazers that fired at different frequencies, some info about it is still classified.
