"At the moment, on the world stage, Iran is best known for making mischief in the Middle East. However there is another side to the Islamic Republic of Iran. It is one of the leading countries in the world for transgender surgery. Iran carries out more sex reassignment surgeries than any country in the world besides Thailand.

This might sound odd, as homosexual acts are punishable by death. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has described homosexuality as an “ugly and despicable practice” and part of a “propaganda campaign by the West” in Muslim countries. Under the mullahs, many homosexuals have been hanged.

However, there is a loophole. In 1982 the Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa legalising sex-reassignment surgery, on the grounds that a man’s soul could exist in a woman’s body. So one solution for homosexuals is to live as women after undergoing transgender surgery."

I thought Shias were supposed to be better than this...

During the shah's rule trans qweens were given drugs and testosterone to stop being massive fags and they were unironically very cruel to them. Their "cure" was torture. So after the revolution one of these trans xisters visited khomeini and told xir story to him. Khomeini felt bad for xir and was moved by xir story. He looked at islam and found out that there aren't really any rules against changing gender and it doesn't go against anything. So he made it legal and now we have tranx xisters in Iran or something. THOUGH I have to point out that trannies and pooners here are A LOT less insufferable than those who live in the west and they mostly keep to themselves. At least that's how I feel. It's not like we see tranx people everyday, I've only seen 3 in person and they looked very weird. They dressed like women but looked like men. They also didn't wear hijabs (this was before hijab became a form of protest so it was uncommon to see women without scarfs). But I've lived the majority of my life in a very poor and traditional (backwards) area so my pov is different than let's say someone who lives in Tehran. You might see westernised trannies in Tehran but I can't tell for sure.

Muslims have always had a thing for crossdressing boys and using that to justify homosexual acts. It isn't that surprising and it isn't a Shia-only thing.
There's also a certain thing in Afghanistan where they created a loophole for touching little boys as well.
