Should I fall for the Thinkpad meme?

newer ones are shit the only good thing they have over other laptops is the trackpoint but to old thinkpads are cheap, have great keyboards, great build quality are easy to repair, removable cpu, ram and support for coreboot/libreboot(a open source BIOS/UEFI)

Which is the best model? I'm looking for a laptop for personal use and to maybe play some games on.

Don’t know where to post this. I’ve been looking into buying a laptop and I was wondering if thinkpads were as good as people say they are or if I should just buy some cheap Lenovo shit
thinkpads are amazing. very durable and my t530 has lasted a decade with only a hard drive failure. the newer models are terrible though. there are a lot of old models on ebay for 100-300$

you should get a dell latitude instead. lenovo has done some odd shit in the past (this) and their build quality nowadays is dogshit. as for specific models i'd recommend, most people go with the 7490 which is often cheaper than the equivalent thinkpad t480. you'll probably have to replace the battery though as these machines are over 5 years old now. they're just barely able to run Windows 11 if that's what you into because of the 8th gen CPU requirement. performance should be good enough to play simple games like java minecraft and old AAA stuff.
