POOP!!!!! POOP POOP PEE!!!!
Shintoism was one of the last keyed religions in the civilized world before Amerikwans basically persecuted Shinto and forced the Emperor to renounce his status in the religion. This is why the Amerikwans did everything in their power to stomp it out once they won, because a religion which deifies the Emperor and the Volk is terrifying. Shinto is good in other ways as well, it focuses on the world as fundamentally good and worth living in despite the existence of evil and impurity. Its morals are based on piety towards the proper gods, ancestor veneration, ritual purity, and upholding natural law.
Shinto is probably the closest thing in modern day to what the Roman state religion was like.
Sadly these days Shinto is mostly a social event and not much Japanese still believe in the idealism and animism which it sprung from. In East Asia many weird cults pop up which seek to take advantage of the decline in folk religion, like Unification Church. I think this is very sad, the Japanese had the right idea persecuting foreign religions and frankly I think they might have also benefitted from persecuting Buddhism. Buddhism is not bad as an esoteric tradition but as a mass religion can lead to some problems.
The Japanese used to be a bearded people. In all of their paintings they are bearded to differentiate themselves from the Chinese and Koreans, who can't grow facial hair.
