I'm currently hosting a 24/7 public Quake deathmatch server running my own custom map using FTEQW's holepunch service. Perhaps it could act as a de facto Schlog or Sharty server a la Soytopia, Schlogtropolis, etc. I’ll give instructions on how to connect below.

DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING FTEQW:
FTEQW is a Quake source port primarily focused on online multiplayer. I highly recommend you use FTEQW, as there is a high likelihood other Quake source ports will fail to connect to the server.
1. Download FTEQW from https://www.fteqw.org/ . If you're on Windows, you'll want to download either the Win64 OpenGL client or Win64 Vulkan client. Afterward, extract the files to a location of your choice.
2. Make a folder called "id1" in the root of your FTEQW installation. This is where the Quake PAK files will go.
3. Copy Quake's PAK0.PAK and PAK1.PAK files to the id1 folder of your FTEQW installation. If you own Quake on Steam, these files should be located in /steamapps/common/Quake/id1 . If you don't already own Quake, finding pirated copies of the PAK files is relatively easy.
4. Try booting up FTEQW by launching fteglqw64.exe . If you did everything correctly, you should be in the Quake main menu.
CONNECTING TO THE SERVER:
5. Launch FTEQW and press the ~ key on your keyboard to open the Quake console.
6. Paste "connect rtc://master.frag-net.com:27950/gibsonkidd" into the console and press enter. If all goes well, you should be able to connect to the server with no issues.
CONNECTION TROUBLESHOOTING:
From my experience, FTEQW's holepunch service sometimes has finicky issues regarding connection and load times. You may be booted at random or stuck at a connection screen. Here are some tips that may fix whatever issues you're having:
1. Check if you've correctly installed FTEQW. Reread steps 1-4 if you need any help.
2. If the URL listed above doesn't work, try entering "connect gibsonkidd" into the console instead or searching for "gibsonkidd" on FTEQW's built-in server list at Multiplayer -> Join a Game.
3. If you're stuck at a connection screen, either wait a short while or try connecting again. As mentioned earlier, the server is running a custom map so it may take a bit for it to download. If the connection continues to stall, try connecting again.
If none of the methods above work for you, please contact me. Happy fragging!
