I personally believe, that self-inserting is not as bad as some make it out to be, nor is it a behaviour that is only done by new users. If we look at old /qa/ archives, we can actually see many examples of self-inserting. Any argument against self-inserting can be easily deconstructed.

Don’t have a problem with it but the people who tend to self-insert (Joel, SatokoFansArentWhite, etc) are extremely annoying and make everything about themselves

It's only natural that you, as an adult, can understand that they are essentially just used as reaction images. Most soicucks are literal children who think putting an image of 'plier next to your post means you want to be 'plier

They are literally just profile-pictures that look cool. As long as you don’t think you are them and use them to identify yourself you are not self-inserting.
