turns out i just didnt jam the connector in my monitor hard enough because i was scared of breaking it
Now i get to hear the GNOME/whatever audio test SISA say "Front left..." as well as "Front right..."

the aux port is in a shitty position where its facing vertical (so id have to shove it up there geg)
had it been sideways i wouldve never had this problem
all of a sudden i got pissed off, jammed it harder, and the static stopped and now i have stereo
