Music

I feel like music has been kinda harming me. Sometimes when I listen to it while doing homework or something’s it’s mildly distracting and makes me more inefficient. It also fills the mind with noise so I don’t self reflect as much. Even when trying to use it to “hype myself up” and be more productive I feel like it amplifies energy temporarily but decreases it in the long run. Also I feel that music reinforces the unhealthy “I need constant stimulation” state of mind I often have.

Don’t the Muslims believe music is bad or something? I’m agnostic but I think they might be on to something here.

The more I think about music the more I become convinced that it is a vice very similar to TikTok and video games. I doubt I will stop listening to music completely, especially considering the fact that that would mean never listening soy parody songs again, but I think I will try to reduce my music consumption from now on, and mostly only listen to it when it is least harmful (such as when working out)

Speaking of Muslims, I couldn’t find anything saying music is inherently bad. Just anything that takes you away from God or Allah or whatever is considered sinful.

Yes, modern music is absolutely haram. There is a difference of opinion on whether or not music with more innocent intentions is or isn't though. From what I know, it's because music is a distraction that moves your love closer to this world instead of God.

Well, it's the same with any sort of media. If you have a screen next to you on the Schlog or the 'party itself as you write an essay, it will also be distracting (classical music does seem a bit different, since there is, more often than not, no sort of lyrics that can halter the mind from its responsibilities in comparison to vocal music). Music should be treated like a recreational thing, on the same equivalence of watching something that doesn't matter on the 'tube, or browsing an imageboard. That's why it seems so weird to me that I so consistently see other students at my school with their listening devices in their ears as they struggle through some complex work, as if there wasn't a distraction entering their ears for every thought generated in their head. Perhaps it is just different for each person's mind. I can listen to as much music as I want while writing, but I don't find myself being as efficient when working on mathematics if I have my ears engaged with something.

I think you're somewhat right, it's definitely distracting for things that require a lot of thought like mathematics or problem solving and it's probably best to cut it out (it's also probably why xeople who are obsessed with music, specifically nigger rap, tend to be retarded). I find that for physical labor and working out it doesn't really matter since you don't need to think much anyway. I do like to put on random or topic-specific videos to listen to when doing more creative stuff like drawing so that might be a good alternative.
