I thought he was annoying at first, but that's just because I was new. I only started to appreciate it after he had already stopped. The thing about avatarfags is that they're usually people who have used the site for a long time and are either bored of it or dissatisfied with the direction it's going in, which is exactly what happened to me.

Last anime I watched was Story of the Alps: My Annette. How does it compare to that ?

It's much better. Story of the Alps is just a meh classic anime in my opinion, but then again I don't really enjoy classic anime. I do think Annette is super cute though.

The main appeal of SOL is that it's supposed to be chill and laid back. You get to watch cute girls do cute things for 24 minutes. It also helps that Lucky Star is one of the funnier ones, so it doesn't really feel boring when you watch it.

I've been thinking about this for a long time and I've come to the conclusion that anime is most popular and Invasive in backward societies or societies that are in decline. Since nowadays in most societies people can read and write and are culturally educated, they subconsciously realize that everything is bad and choose the easiest way of escapism. It's interesting to see in my country, because despite a european cultural heritage, everything is so depressing that escapism has completely taken over mass culture to the point where Japanese anime words have become part of vulgar speech.

Would be crazy to assume anime is the main or even close to the main door for escapism in the modern landscape.
Maybe for some communities, but not for the vast majority of people.
Moreover, a meaning to life hasn't been abandonned by everyone in society. Faith still exists.
And even beyond faith, I like to think I'm starting to see a shift of culture. Complete escapism would neceesitate a resolution to the absence of change, but I see more and more people being wishing and actively trying to bring change.

A vision of future hasn't been lost, at least where I'm at.
