I did it because I couldn't find a lot of achronological maps of Russia on the web, at least not any accurate ones. If you have any questions about it, or if there are any territories I've missed, please let me know. I'm not doing the names of the territories or listing the time periods since that isn't the purpose. This contains territories of the Russian Empire and Republic, as well as the Soviet Union.

Let me also define what each line's definition(in my own words) is on the key:

The first line means Russia de jure and de facto controlled a territory, and annexed it into its empire/nation/union.
The second line means that Russia set up or controlled a government of some kind in that territory and were staying indefinitely or for a set amount of time.
The third line means that Russia's army occupied the area and were not challenged militarily by any other power, but did not set up any sort of administration or government that they controlled.
The fourth line means Russia had people working for them in the governments of the zone demarcated, or a fighting force/militant group in that area that relied on Russia to survive. For the second situation, specifically in China, the border is set at the time the fighting force/militant group won.
The 5th line means Russia set up land charters and/or exploration of that area, but it was not formally annexed into Russia's territory, did not have (all of) the same rules applied to it, and was not under the complete control of the Russian government all over.

I'm going to calculate total land area, add my definitions for each type of occupation as listed in OP, and maybe outline and put titles on all the specific territories now.

Made a mistake, accidentally converted square miles to regular kilometers, not square ones. Easily fixable but I was scared.

Is it really fair to say Russia had influence over China? I'm not saying you are wrong, but that seems controversial at least.

During the Chinese civil war the Chinese called themselves the Soviets, and relied on supply by the Soviet Union. After 1949, I do agree they lost a lot of influence and lost it completely in 1961, but China was a militant group that was based on and relied on the Soviet Union. It's safe to say Russia controlled Chinese communists until the end of the civil war; the territory shown is what the CCP controlled right before it ended.

Also, I’ve been reading the English translation of this book, recently. Really good storytelling of the early development of the Kievan Rus, a large portion of the book takes places throughout the 900s and it covers a lot of their interactions with the Eastern Romans.
