In 1999, William was caught and arrested, imprisoned in Rawlins, and sentenced to life in prison. During the investigation, the FBI estimated that William killed 34 people, including 2 police officers who attacked his trail, Julia Burton, 35, and Robert Decker, 58. Shortly before his death, Robert once said "Maybe I'm too old for this investigation." William liked to use a crowbar, a sledgehammer, and a cleaver in a variety of combinations to kill and torture.
