Imageboards and forums fulfill different niches. I think the age of imageboards is long gone. I'm not saying they're bad but to some people, there are better alternatives.
What is gemmy about imageboard or any anonymous thingie is that it's anonymous. You can talk about or post something and not have it necessarily be linked back to you. Something I don't like about forums is how there's actual social consequences to what you do and you have to play your cards right to not be a pariah like the the czechnigger.
Forums have the advantage of not being complete and utter slop. Even if it's SNCA, it's still not shit. It's not as easy to ban evade and you're encouraged to not be a complete retard, causing the site to not be as shit as an imageboard.
The people are growing stupider and their data is becoming increasingly valuable to big tech bug-eaters, if (or when) these lines pass over eachother there will be a spike in desire for anonymity in some way or another, unless this happens they will remain stagnant and likely increasingly degenerate.
