I'm watching Die Hard with a Vengeance and I just realized how much I hate it when they use 555-anything as a fake phone number in movies or TV. It totally ruins my immersion. I wouldn't care as much if it sounded real instead.

I thought that was common knowledge, but sometimes studios will use real numbers for you to call. There are also gag numbers in service, like +1 (248) 434-5508 that is just a rickroll.

I also like to sometimes bait young kids online who are clueless that +1 (XXX) 555-1212 is directory assistance and that it's my real phone number. When they call they'd get hit with a 99¢-$2.50 surcharge on their phone bill (which their parents probably pay for).
