My "favorite" is Curt Richter's experiments with hope (shitty how he did it, but very interesting).
Basically, he would put rats in inescapable pools and see how long it took them to drown. He started rescuing the rats before they drowned, let them recover, and put them back in.
He discovered that once they had been rescued once, they swam for much longer the next time before drowning.
It shows the power that your mind can have, and also seems to be a frame work for the powers-that-be to edge us with hopelessness without pushing people to fully snap
