Haha, I was just reading Tertullian's text where that quote comes from last week. That entire first paragraph is an immediate jolt of harsh truth. An excerpt:

Do you not know who Tertullian was? And, of course, it isn't as if he's denying man's guilt when identifying woman's; his entire point is that many of the women he had seen in his day, just as we see in ours, were wearing such lavish clothing that they coveted in all of its decoration and its effect on their appearance, and so that opening of establishing woman's role in the fall of the universe is a rhetorical choice to begin with a reflection on what causes people to covet and to fall into such desires of rich, self-worshiping appearance.
