Keyed Anxiety Release Technique (Also known as Trauma Release Exercises/TRE)

Soyteen Liker

it's just getting started
TRE is a technique people can use in the short term to relieve anxiety and supposedly longterm to relieve greater traumas that are stuck in the body. There's this somewhat long video that seems geared towards easing it in but I found that doing the last one only was faster and more effective, it starts at 10 minutes in.

The precautions are that they might activate powerful unpleasant emotions that one may not be prepared for, and if you do it for too long you might shake afterwards as well. For me it makes me feel lighter and less "on the hunt for threats" yk? What about you guys?

Goon all day and it’ll fix your problems.

Could meditation or prayer also work for stress relief? Have you ever found similar results from either of those, in terms of a similar tranquility and a release of anxiousness?

I used to deal with anxiety and stress by drawing and molding clay, ended with a little bit of artistic sense; nowadays I just read a lot of shit comics or just simply lay down somewhere and start thinking of random shit until i sleep.
I have an hyperactive brain at times

Most interesting take I've heard on this is that the mechanism is just giving your brain a novel thing to chew on, and maybe that can help it move on to a better frame of mind. You balance or strain your muscles against each other in a way that is unfamiliar to you, making your arms shake like you've never done a plank before. TREs are kind of the thing you'd do to stave off cabin fever. I think there is some pop psychology stuff you could refer to here like neuroplasticity and how cognitive behavioral therapy literally creates new physical neural pathways in your brain.

The argument in this thread that stress is really important to achievement rings true, but there has to be some detail to how a person is attuned to their stress, not just predisposed towards/against stress. Maybe "Being nervous is the same thing as being excited" except how you handle it. I don't think that TREs are exactly relieving stress. I'm not sure if stress is relevant at all- it wouldn't be if the novelty theory were all there were to it.
