In the case of Adam, the first human, who was brought to existence not through physical birth, but through divine, literal creation, the most probable cause'd be for sexual stimulation. I believe both the nipples of men and women are sensitive when touched, and so just as sex has been made pleasurable through the other matters of it, with genitalia, so too are nipples another factor of pleasure.
