It reminds me of black walnut trees. These trees spread their seeds far, and those grow like their source does, but black walnut trees have a toxin that inhabits them, and this toxin destroys the surrounding plants as the trees continue to produce new walnuts. A breeze can spread seeds, but some will carry rot if they are impure, and that taintedness only spreads the longer that they are present.
