>He doesn't know that is part of the joke
I don't know if he was anti catholic, but he wasn't catholic. Socialists of all kinds tend to limit to a state religion and erase religion as a means of control. I could believe he anti catholic. Something interesting to remember (((albeit))) is that the Vatican was pro nazi Germany. (1/4)
The USSR was extremely anti Catholic and turned Russia from being one of the biggest catholic strong holds into a place where they were running Catholics out and killing them. This change plus Italy becoming Germany's fascist ally forced the Vatican to be pro Hitler. (2/4)
Also considering that the USSR committed atrocities on a much larger scale than nazi Germany and arguable depending on your sources committed more heinous crimes, it's hard to blame the Vatican. I also believe that communists infiltrated the Catholic church, (3/4)
like they did with western governments, and subverted it leading to Vatican II and the Catholic church's current state. The Nazi's never subverted my government or church. Not saying the Nazis were good, just that it's hard to fault the Vatican for this view in the moment. (4/4)
