1) we cant be talking about our ancestry if we are degenerates today, a shameful stain on our lineage 2) im half miền Bắc and miền Nam, and i only know relatives on my dads side apart of the ARVN. Other than that, no i never really asked my parents if i had cool ancestors. But imo, that is only a part of the equation. What matters is what we do now, and if we can improve our family name onward.
My bà ngoại and her family are the only people I know personally that are người bắc. From what I know, they were originally from Hà Nội but migrated south when the country split in two (My bà ngoại was born in Nghệ An, while they were moving south). My ông ngoại and bà nội are from miền trung, Quảng Bình and Huế respectively. My Ông Nội is from the farmlands of Giồng Trơm, specifically Bình Hòa.
My dad is from a village near Saigon, while my mom was from
hanoi, quite poetic if you asked me (but they met in California) My aunt is from Haiphong, and the funny thing is is that when she came back to vietnam around 2015, she noted how many Chinks there were. Like there was this one lady who spoke straight Mandarin selling stuff in the market-- ZERO vietnamese. Like ZERO.
