Turkish. Living in Turkey. Not sure why my skin color matters, I guess Americans can't keep themselves from being obsessed about it.

Many of our presidents, especially before the Great War, saw a unified European identity as a cornerstone in establishing the American culture because of all of the diversely-cultured European immigrants coming over, hence an extensive focus on race in much of the country's early legislation. Perhaps that influenced our modern fixation.
