I think it would be best off as a Moldovan autonomous territorial unit like Gagauzia. The reason it broke away from Moldova was because of Slavic Transnistrians' fear that Romano-Moldovan culture would be promoted by the state at the expense of minorities such as themselves. If Moldova could assuage those fears, I'd imagine that Transnistrians would be much more willing to rejoin it.

Independence is working for now, but I don't think it's a viable long-term solution because of how much of their economy is dependent on selling electricity to Moldova, which is currently trying to shift towards buying it from Romania instead.
