Yeah drinking soda/fruit juice/other carbonated drinks like crazy can lead to acid reflux agony if you don't eat a lot of food to balance it out. I had a month or two where I didn't eat enough and slammed down sparkling waters like crazy, and I was literally a slave to my can of tums. I used to drink really acidic and tart fruit juices (because I love tart flavors) with no problem but at a certain point I couldn't drink a cup without intense chest pain. I don't have my reflux problem anymore, because the pain made me have to stop getting certain drinks independent from my shit willpower, but I cannot drink a cup of cranberry or apple juice without doubling over in pain within 5 mins. A strawberry kiwi snapple drink is the top of what I can handle. I can drink tea just fine though

Exactly, what else would you expect to break down your food? I do think that the fact our stomachs are close to carrion bird levels of acidic is definitely a point of suprise though. Even though we still die from parasite and microbe infections if we drink water without sterilizing it for some reason, and get food poisoning from mildly old food.
